| This leisure tour begins with a scenic drive through the mountainous countryside to “La Plaza Principal,” the main square of Colima City, the state capital. Your guide will take you on an orientation of the majestic 19th century cathedral, "Catedral Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe," and “El Palacio de Gobierno," the government palace. |
| Next, you'll
visit ancient pyramids just discovered18 years ago, with identifying plaques
translated into 3 languages: English, Spanish and Nahuat'l, an Indian tongue
still spoken today and taught at the University of Colima.
The pyramids of La Campana are approximately 2,000 years old, and only 10% of the project has been excavated, though there are 15 pyramids for viewing. |

| From
Colima we travel to the beautiful town of
Nogueras,
to the Alejandro Rangel Hidalgo museum, "Hacienda de Nogueras."
Rangel Hidalgo was a painter, collector of antiquities, a designer and graphic illustrator. The first room in the hacienda shows part of the Christmas card collection that made its tour around the world with UNICEF. |
| Another room
houses a replica of a rural kitchen with its accessories and implements, such as
a "metate," for grinding corn, and a "zarzo,"
which hangs from the ceiling to keep the animals away from the food.
Rangel was the founder and director of the School of Furniture and Crafts, and another room features several hand-inlaid pieces. Furniture, like the piece shown here is in every Mexican embassy, and the president's house, "Los Pinos." |

| In yet another large room, with the
lighting specially designed to enhance the effect, are prehispanic pottery
pieces dating from 500 years B.C. to 600 A.D.
There are numerous display cases, where you'll see different qualities of sculpture, showing the grades of skill of various artisans. The largest collection of "Colima Dogs" are at this museum. |
